If you have an ocular emergency and you cannot reach us, proceed to the Emergency Department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

We see eye emergencies every day and the majority of them can be diagnosed and even treated right on the spot. According to the severity and nature of your emergency, we will gladly make room on our schedule.

We will also get you set up with the correct specialist should your eye emergency warrant referral and we will work on your behalf to get you in ASAP.

What is considered an eye emergency?

• Flashes of light (twinkling, iridescent, lightning bolt like flashes)
• Foreign body in eye
• Floaters (grey or black spots, strings, crescents, or curtain like feeling)
• A sudden loss of vision
• Blunt force trauma to the eye
• Scratched eye
• Pain in or around the eye
• Any redness
• Injury
• Sudden blurry vision
